For some reason the little orange tree growing by the oak had to come down after many, many years of survival. It was what's called a "seedling", so extremely sour little oranges. Everything's greening up after the rain we've had the last few days. |

Gopher Tortoises
The Gopher Tortoises are coming out now that it's warmer. They hibernate during the winter. Even during the summertime they'll stay underground if it's cloudy. The love the heat and sunshine! We call them "turtles" or "gophers", not to be confused with the little fuzzy 'real' gophers!
We want to find a new home for these since this property is for sale. One of the sad parts of real estate development here is that developers can just pave over their habitat and pay a fine :-( I keep checking to see if they're on the Endangered Species lists yet.
We've been told that many years ago, during the Great Depression, people around here caught them for food. They called them "Hoover Chickens"! (One of President Hoover's campaign slogans was, "A chicken in every pot!)

Carolina Jasmine up in the trees - can you see the yellow? Seems a little early for it to bloom, but it's everywhere.. I'll see if I can get a better photo of the jasmine tomorrow. If you live in a snowy climate, all this "green" might look the same to you, but really there's been a lot of change the past few weeks. It's not just the temperatures, but also the trees are greening up, the sky looks different, the birds are singing away! It's much more subtle than Massachusetts or Montana, where I've also experienced Winter into Spring, but it's there. |

| Teddy Bear On Chimney Cap Now that the weather's so nice Teddy likes to spend time outside, including up on the roof. We saw him up on top of the chimney peering down at us and managed to get a photo before he came running down to the edge to see what we were doing! He looks like he's our Watch Cat, guarding the place! |

February's Special Project didn't get very far - modem problems, among other things - so will aim to get it all organized for next February. In the meantime Spring has definitely "sprung" here! From 40 to 80 overnight, or so it seemed!
